The Textile Research and Development Association International (TRDAI) was established in 1999 to promote internationally functional textiles that Taiwan specializes in. Under the efforts of many previous chairman, by holding seminars, discussion sharing, situational experiences, corporate visits and participation in international exhibitions, members respond enthusiastically, further encouraging member companies to develop innovation and strategic cooperation. The results have been outstanding.。
However, the global textile industries have been facing multiple uncertainties since 2023, including IMF's interest rate hike, the vagaries of the unpredictable international political and economic situation, and the slow recovery of the economy, resulting in a lack of consumer confidence and a slow elimination of commodity inventories.
At the same time, under the trend of circular economy, global textiles are also undergoing fundamental changes. The fiber-to-fiber closed loop advocated by EU in 2022 has been extended to the world. For example, EU and the United States have announced that they will enact a series of circular economy and commodity production bills in 2024. It is believed that this wave will drive Taiwan's textile supply chain to become more integrated into the circular economy.
In this moment full of challenges and opportunities, we need to keep insight to seize market changes and trends. Global sustainable development is the current general direction, and the textile industry should actively respond and promote green production and recycling. As a promoter of Taiwan's textile industry, TRDAI should play a greater role in research and development, cooperation and knowledge sharing. We need to actively cooperate with international partners to meet the challenges. The following directions are worthy of our joint efforts:
(1) Build up awareness of sustainable development and environmental protection
Encourage member companies to adopt environmental friendly technologies and materials to reduce their impact.
(2) Continuous innovation and R&D investment
Members are encouraged to actively participate in scientific and technological cooperation and innovation, and promote the research and development of new technologies and new materials to increase the value-added.
(3) Expand human capital cultivation and knowledge sharing
Organize academic seminars, workshops and other activities to promote the exchange of knowledge.
(4) Increase communication activities with international and domestic brands
For example, we will expand the interaction of TOG (Taiwan Outdoor Group) with TEBA(Taiwan Excellent Brand Association).
It is expected that TRDAI can play a leading role on the international stage and promote innovation and sustainable development of the textile industries.
